Discovery allows to discovery KeyWest radios available in the network based on the discovery configuration. ORNMS sends ICMP packet to check whether any device is available with the configured IP address. Once a response is received ICMP packet ORNMS sends further SNMP discovery packet to check for further configuration.

ORNMS provides the three ways of searching the devices in the network.
     1. IP Address - Specific IP based discovery
     2. IP Range - Discovering devices by IP Range/Subnet mask
     3. File Upload - Discovery through predefined template

IP Address

IP based discovery helps to discovery single device. For example, providing single IP address like 10.10.5.5 discovers the single device.

IP Range

Discovering devices by providing a range of IPs will discover all the devices available between the given range. For example, providing range 10.10.5.1 as begin address and 10.10.5.20 as end address discovers the devices with IP addresses between 1 and 20. By selecting the “By Range” checkbox which will be updated as “By Mask” after selection, NMS executes discovery based on “Subnet Mask”. For example, by providing 192.168.1.1 as “IP Range Begin” value and 255.255.255.0 as “Subnet Mask” value sends a discovery request to all the devices from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1. n.. 254.

File Upload

A template file will be useful when discovering more than one device which are available in multiple networks. By providing the IP address of individually from each network which needs to be discovered should be given in the template file. ORNMS processes the template file and sends discovery request to each of the device.

Data Table

After the discovery request is completed all the devices which are discovered will be listed under the discovery configuration. By default, all the unassigned devices will be listed in the table. Changing the option from “unassigned” to “All”. Now you can see both unassigned and assigned devices in the list. There is an option to Provision (newly installed devices) or Profile / Firmware update (For existing devices) can be done: The picture below shows the Firmware, Provision.

Firmware Upgrade

Firmware upgrade feature allows to push latest or any of the available firmware into the ORNMS. Select devices from the list and select the firmware from the dropdown and click the “Upgrade” button.

Popup window will appear, select the latest are required firmware and click upgrade. (Check for Configuration section for uploading firmware’s into ORNMS server).

Provisioning

Select the devices from the list and then select the Provision option from the dropdown and click “Upgrade” button. Select the radio mode (AP / SU) and select link type (PTP / PTMP) and click apply button to apply a configuration (Check of Configuration section for creation of profile templates) which was created earlier to the available devices. A profile can be applied by selecting devices from unassigned devices or by selecting all option which lists all the devices. a

Discovery Task

On initiation of the discovery, the status of the discovery can be known from the discovery task details displayed on the right-side bottom of the screen.  The following are the columns of the Discovery task details.
          Type: Type of discovery.

  •                     Specific – When specific IP address is provided for discovering single device.
  •                     By Range: When range of IP addresses are provided for discovering.
  •                     By Mask:  When discovery is made using subnet mask

Time: Time at which the discovery is initiated
Start: Starting range IP address if discovery is made using IP Range
End:  The last IP address when range discovery is given.
ICMP: The count of devices which responded to the ICMP ping
SNMP: The count of devices which responded to the SNMP ping
Status : The status at which the discovery has been completed.

For example, by providing 192.168.1.1 as “IP Range Begin” value and 255.255.255.0 as “Subnet Mask” value sends a discovery request to all the devices from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1. n.. 254.

Summary

Summary graph provides a graphical view of the number of un-provisioned devices, and out of un-provisioned devices the count of AP and SU.
